Obituary for Stanley Beckstead

Stanley Allen Beckstead, age 70, or Elwell, MI passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Stan was born in Driggs, ID on September 3, 1952 to Eugene Allen Beckstead and Madge Lillie Owen (Smith). Stan graduated from St. Louis High School, where he met his future wife, Rhonda Beckstead (Peak). Stan and Rhonda were married on November 11, 1972 and had just celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Together, they had two boys, Jeremy, born in 1973 and Scott, born in 1977. In 1975, Stan enlisted and served for 8 years in the United States Navy. Stan’s service took the family from stations in Tennessee, Florida, and Maryland. In 1983, Stan began a 2-year post in Saudi Arabia, working for Lockheed Aircraft International. In 1985, he returned to Michigan for good, to be near family. Stan then worked for Lear Corporation until his retirement in 2017. Stan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved nothing more than being in the woods or standing on the river. He passed his love for the outdoors onto his sons and grandson. Stan’s other great joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rhonda Beckstead, of Elwell, MI., son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Stephanie, grandson, Wyatt Beckstead, granddaughters, Alexandra Beckstead (Will Ellis) and Izabel (Skylar) Flesher, all of Traverse City, MI., brother, Nyle (Dawn) McMurtrey of Sedalia, MO, sisters, Melody Porter, of St. Louis, MI and Pam (Mike) Schritter of Aberdeen, ID, brothers-in-law. Dan Peak or Shepherd, MI, Dave (Cindy) Peak of Alma, MI, sisters-in-law, Penny (Dick) Geiger of St. Louis, Linda (Terry) Moon of Alma, MI and Lori (Mike) Kendall of Barryton, MI, along with many nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Beckstead, parents, grandparents and mother-in-law, Edna Peak
