Obituary for Samuel Nelsen

Samuel Clayton Nelsen born September 15, 1954 to Henry and Fanny Nelsen in Weed, California.

Sam passed away in Mt. Pleasant Michigan on January 2, 2022. He made Mt. Pleasant his home for the past 30 years.

Sam graduated from High school in 1972 and joined the US navy for 12 years as a ordnance mechanic and a E6 Petty Officer.

Sam is survived by his mother Fanny of Albany Oregon, brother George (Shirley) of Anchorage, Alaska, brother Henry (Sue) of Lowell, Arkansas, Jesse of McCloud, California, sisters Janice Stark of Monroe, Utah, Francile Ortiz of Bolivar, Missouri, Cindy Rossi of Happy Valley, Oregon and Sally Nelsen of Tigard, Oregon.

Sam was preceded in death by his father Henry and brother Daniel.

Sambo will be dearly missed by his second family The Haynes’ Alvie, Heather, Shania, Baylee, Richard and Brooke.

Sam would drop everything to help anyone in need and he was a great asset to the Cans from Race Fans annual food drive at Ric’s food center. He was loved by his racing family, The Diner family, River Road Party Store family and his Dogtown family.

He loved to fish at the local fishing spots, especially the Chippewa River.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday January 22, 2022, from 1-5 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post 3033 in Mt. Pleasant.

Lunch will be provided with Sam’s favorite foods.
