Obituary for Gerhard "Gary" Thilgen III

Gerhard (Gary) William Thilgen III, aged 76 of Saranac, Michigan passed away on February 9, 2022 after a brief stay at the Medilodge care facility in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. A private memorial service will be held for Gary at a future date.

Gary was born on August 8, 1945 in Paradise Valley, California. He grew up in Imperial Beach, California with his parents Louis and Betty Rose (Hill) Kamradt.

As a young man, Gary and his family moved to East Jordan, Michigan where he attended East Jordan high school. Shortly after high school, he moved to Saranac, Michigan – a place that he called home for over fifty years. His early work career was spent in electronics- working for several years at Pekes’ Electronics in Portland, Michigan. In later years, Gary became interested in computers and spent the last several years of his work career at Saranac Public Schools- fixing and working on their computers.

Not only was Gary a lover of electronics, he was also a lover of music- especially ‘hard’ rock. As a young man Gary and his brother John were in a local ‘rock’ band called” The Group”. Gary often reminisced about these times as a young man with his family. Gary was a kind man. He helped others in a quiet way that most people never notice. As a tall man, he was sometime referred to as a ‘gentle giant’. Gary was friendly and respectful to all. He will be missed.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Louis Kamradt, brother, Michael Thilgen, and sisters, Karen Houghton and Julie Gilliland.

Gary is survived by his mother, Betty Rose Kamradt of Marina, California; his brother John (Nancy) Kamradt of Ruskin, Florida; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and a close friend, Dan (Martha) Brown of Saranac, Michigan.
